Questions
What do I need to use GluScout?
A Mac with macOS 14.6 or later, and your own Nightscout server with its web address, plus an access token if your site is protected. GluScout does not provide glucose data by itself.
How do I connect to my Nightscout?
Open Settings and choose “Add Profile”. Enter a Profile Name, your Nightscout URL and the access token, then click “Save & Connect”.
The access token is made in Nightscout’s Admin Tools. Leave it empty if your site is public. The setup guide walks through it with screenshots.
Can I watch more than one person?
Yes. Add one Profile per Nightscout server: yourself, a child, a parent. Each Profile has its own colour, glucose targets, alerts and menu bar label.
The popover shows one card per person. Click a card to open its Analytics.
What is in the Analytics window, and which ranges can I pick?
Open it with the “Analytics” button or by clicking a Profile card. Pick a Profile and a range from the last 7 days to the last year.
It has an Overview (time in range 70–180 mg/dL, average glucose, GMI, variability, sensor coverage), AGP, Highs vs Lows, Patterns and Observations. Observations describe your data and show the readings and days behind each one. They are not advice. GMI is an estimate and may differ from lab HbA1c. What each Analytics view shows has the details.
Why does Analytics say “Limited data” or “Low coverage”?
“Limited data” appears when the range holds less than 14 days.
Sensor coverage is the share of expected readings present across the days GluScout has so far. Below 70% the results may be off, so GluScout shows “Low coverage”.
Which alerts are there, and how do I turn them on?
Low, high, urgent low, urgent high and stale-data alerts, set per Profile. They are off by default. Open Settings, choose “Alerts”, select a Profile and turn on “Enable Alerts”.
Each notification shows who, the value with unit, the trend and the age. Alerts are a convenience, not a safety system. Keep using the alarms of your approved CGM, receiver or pump.
macOS says notifications are blocked. What now?
macOS will not ask again. Allow GluScout in System Settings > Notifications to get glucose alerts. In the Alerts settings, “Open System Settings” takes you there.
How do I clear analytics data or delete a Profile?
Analytics keeps a copy of up to one year of readings from your Nightscout on this Mac. To remove it, open Settings, choose “Analytics data” and click “Clear analytics data…”. Your Profiles, settings and the data in Nightscout stay as they are. The next time you open a Profile in Analytics, its history downloads again, which usually takes a few minutes.
To delete a Profile, open Settings, choose “Profiles” and delete it. GluScout asks you to confirm, and it cannot be undone. This also deletes the Profile’s token, alert settings and cached readings.
Can I use mg/dL or mmol/L?
Both. You pick “Glucose Units” for each Profile when you add it, and you can change them later in the Profile’s settings. GluScout prints the unit next to every value.
Does GluScout have a light and a dark appearance?
Yes. It offers light, dark or system appearance. Choose it in Settings under “Appearance”.
Which languages does GluScout support?
English and Polish. Change the language in Settings under “Appearance”, then restart GluScout to apply it.
My reading is old or missing. What should I check?
Readings older than 15 minutes are dimmed and show their age. When Nightscout cannot be reached, the popover shows a one-line message. If the access token is wrong, GluScout tells you that Nightscout rejected it.
Check the address and the access token of the Profile in Settings under “Profiles”.
Where does my data go?
Your data stays on your Mac. GluScout sends it only to your own Nightscout. There is no account and no tracking. Read the details in the Privacy Policy.
